Demon!Reader x England – Chapter 4

Chapter 4: Freedom

The dark, black nothingness of your unconsciousness was the only thing surrounding you as you float through the void.  There was no light here, and there never seemed to be any.  Why would a demon need to dream anyway?  It was just another weakness.  Dreams provided the desire to want or need something.  Whether it took the form of an object or emotion, demons would take advantage of it and use it against others.

Your mind wanders aimlessly through the empty dream world.  There was no clear direction where you were going, but you couldn’t bring yourself to stay still.  Using the time you had, you began focusing on what was to become of you.  If those warlocks succeeded in binding you, you’d be the laughing stalk of the whole netherworld.  Ordon was probably already spreading the rumor.  Just the thought of him made your blood boil.

You were faintly aware of what was going on outside of your mind.  Chains surrounded your body in a suffocating embrace.  It was chillingly cold as well, which you assumed it was because they laid you on some kind of stone flooring.  Sounds came and went, but it sounded like you were listening from inside a container.  Clinking glass, though muffled, was heard somewhere away from, along with muffled voices.

It stayed this way for who knows how long.  Each passing moment felt like an eternity.  However, you had no intentions of waking from this unconscious state, and just secluded yourself further in your mind.  You had to be awake for the binding, or else it wouldn’t work.

The voices now grew closer to you, and you could sense them standing near your body.  Waving your hand out in front of you, you conjured an image in front of you.  It showed what was happening outside, and you could clearly tell the warlocks were frustrated.  You couldn’t hear them, but you guessed you had been out for quite some time.  Their patience seemed to be running thin.  Lukas kicked your foot and looked to be speaking to you.  No movement was made by you.

Lukas looked back at the others and said something that caused them to pale a little.  Arthur shook his head and counters the other, obviously frightened by what Lukas had suggested.  Vlad had gripped Arthur’s shoulder and seemed to try to calm the man down.  Arthur could only rub his temple and wave Lukas on.  Lukas crouched down in front of you and placed three fingers to your temple.  His mouth muttered words and soon enough you felt another presence inside your mind.

Turning away from the screen you had made, you came face to face with Lukas.  His emotionless eyes held a deep frustration and anger behind them.  He didn’t show it on his face, but you could sense it was there.

“Wake up, demon,” he commands you.

You give him an unamused stare and made no move to do anything.  He was on the wrong side of the playing field right now, but you wanted to drive him on.

“So the brave little wizard dares to enter my mind, hm?” you grin innocently at him.

“Enough games!  Awaken, or I will personally force you to wake,” he threatens you.  His eyes had become colder, and far more menacing.

“And how do you plan to do that, little human?” you egg him on.

He snaps.  He raises his hand a summons a ball of light.  It’s a holy light, but you didn’t shrink back at it this time.  With one last word he shoots the light at you.  It hurtles towards you at a quick speed.  You didn’t move.  Instead you held out your hand and swiped it to the side.  The once powerful spell disappeared from sight, leaving behind only a few stray strands of light.

Lukas eyes widen in shock as his spell fully dissolves into nothing.  Questions race through his mind; how did you stop that spell when it was a holy spell?  How were you so powerful to get rid of it?

“You’re not too smart after all,” you lazily say.  You give out a yawn in boredom as Lukas begins chanting another spell.

This spell was more powerful than his last one.  It was twice the size and had far more energy.  You stood there once again, not looking fazed at all.  As the orb neared your form, you lifted up both hands this time.  You waved them down in an ‘x’ formation, causing the orb to be split into 4 quarter pieces.  Without waiting to see the warlock’s expression, you brought your clawed hand up and closed it in a fist.  Dark, purple-black rods shot out of the darkness and caged the warlock where he stood.  He was completely caught off guard, and gripped the cage in an attempt to get out.

‘These warlocks don’t have much experience with demons,’ you conclude in your head.

Sure they were powerful, but with that power came very little knowledge of the dark world below.  At least that’s the reason you came up with.  You couldn’t think of any other possibility.

“Have any of you ever summoned another demon besides myself?” you ask him curiously.

“…No.  Not successfully.  Although, Arthur has on occasion,” he answers you through clenched teeth.

“Hmmm~ then why don’t I be ‘nice’,” you quote with your fingers.  This was going to be so much fun, “and explain to you the error of your ways.”

You change into your full demon form, which now looked far more menacingly in the darkness.  Your red-orange eyes glowed through the darkness, and you now had purple flames leaking off your wings.  Lukas fought against his restraint with more vigor than before.  He knew something was going to happen.  Something bad.

You float over to his confinement with a devilish grin upon your face.  The expression on your face was menacing and frightful even though you were smiling.  It made Lukas cringe a bit in his cage.  You stop a few inches away from the cage and smile up at the taller man.  Oh you were going to have so much fun in a few moments.

“Rule 1: Never, ever enter a demons mind.  Rule 2: Never let that demon confine you.  Rule 3:… Never leave your body vulnerable,” you grin widely at the last rule you made up.

Lukas’ own eyes widen in sheer horror.  He tries to remove himself from your mind, but nothing he tries works on the cage.  He can’t even teleport out.  It’s only then the realization dawns upon his mind.  He had just opened up his mind to enter yours, but he had also opened it wide open for you.  A door once opened worked both ways.

“Ah, I see the little boy has finally realized the error of his ways,” you purr and walk around the cage.

A strong hand reaches out of the cage and tightly grips your left wing.  You whip around to see that Lukas had managed to reach out of the cage.  His grip on your wing tightened as his scowl grew.  Your felt no pain though.  All you did was simply pull your wing away and continue to walk.  You hear Lukas yell at you to stop, but you ignore him.

Soon you find the pathway from your mind to his, and the door was swung wide open.  Such an overconfident little warlock.  He thought he could overpower you so easily.  You step through the door and you were soon enveloped by a blinding light.  Next thing you knew you were in a body again, but it was not your own.  The body had very short hair, strong muscles, and a clip in their hair.

You had just possessed Lukas.

Demonic possession was something you hadn’t done for quite some time, but it was the ultimate disguise.  Lukas’ mind held so much knowledge.  Some of which was blocked behind heavy doors, but others were open for you to view.  You gave yourself a moment to adjust to this new body before actually moving yourself.  You had to act as natural as possible or else the other two would sense something was wrong.  You pull Lukas’ hand away from your body and let it fall to the floor.  Your body didn’t stir, and now Lukas was trapped there till you were finished.

“Lukas?  Are you alright?” Vlad asks you from behind.

You nod your head and act as emotionless as you could, “Yeah, a demon’s mind is not entirely a safe place to be.”

“Are you sure everything is alright?” Arthur pressed.

“Yes, I’m fine,” you say firmly.  It was so strange hearing your voice sound like another’s, “The demon is weak.  Your spell did more harm than you intended.”

“I-I didn’t even cast that harmful of a spell,” Arthur retorts.

“Was it a holy light spell?”

“Yes.”

“That’s why.  We need to strengthen it or else it will die,” you lie to them.  Your body was a little weak, yes, but you’d need a boost to overpower all three of them.

“Wait, what?!” Vlad exclaims.  “If we do that then we are helping the creature!”

You ignore the fact that he called you a ‘creature’, and continue to explain, “Well, what else do you suggest we do?  If what Arthur told us is true and this is the right hand of Lucifer, then the last thing we want is for it to die right?”

“True, but I’m not so sure about this plan,” Vlad hesitates.

Unknown to you, Lukas was taking advantage of being in your mind.  Sure he was trapped, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t shift through your mind.  You were no longer in there to control what he could and could not see.  He wanted information, and this was his only chance to get it.

“Well I need that demon alive,” Arthur commands.  You see the determination in his eyes.  “I have a recipe in one of my books for a demon rejuvenation potion.  If we only give it a few drops that should be enough to wake it, right Lukas?”

You nod your head in confirmation.

“Then let’s get to it.”

He led you and Vlad to a separate room in his basement.  It was filled with all manner of materials.  Fairy dust, vampire teeth, and so much more.  It was like a laboratory except smaller and more supernatural.  Arthur pulls out a thick, dusty old book from one of the shelves and places it on the table in the center of the room.  He flips through the pages quickly, and you find it hard to believe he could read that fast.  He stops on a page about a third way through the book.

“Here it is.  Luckily I have everything in stock to make it,” you could hear him sigh in relief.

“What can we do to help?” Vlad asks from your right.

“If you could get me the things on this list,” he hands Vlad a paper with the ingredients.  “I’ll prepare them, and Lukas you can boil them in the cauldron over there,” he gestures to the corner of the room.

You look over to the cauldron and nod you head.  You walk over to it as the other two get to work.  You rack Lukas’ mind for the knowledge to complete the task given to you.  The knowledge came willingly through his memories, and you let a grin sneak past your emotionless facade.  Luckily your back was turned them.  You light the fire beneath the cauldron and wait for the water the boil.  Once it did Arthur began preparing the ingredients.

Arthur began handing you ingredients as he finished them and you place them into the cauldron.  You stir them as they begin to boil together.  One of the ingredients you noticed was nightshade.  A deadly poison to humans, but to demons a flower rich with power.  He had handed you a good size amount of the ingredient, too.

“Don’t use too much of that,” he warns you.  “Just a pinch will do.  Put in too much and she’ll be too powerful for us to control.”

You nod in understanding, but smile widely as you turn your back to him.  It was a strange feeling to this body, to smile so freely.

“So, how is Emil doing?” Arthur asks in curiosity.

You flip through Lukas’ mind again.  Pictures and scenes of a teenage boy came to you as well as other members of his so called family.  Lukas was constantly treating him like a little boy, trying to get him to call him ‘big brother’, but the boy refused.  You learn the said boys name was Emil.

“He’s fine.  Won’t call me ‘big brother’ yet.”

“Oh give the poor boy a break, Lukas,” Vlad says as he wraps his arm around your shoulder.  “He’ll say it when he’s ready.”

You just ignore him and finish stirring the cauldron one last time.  The contents had all combined together to form a toxic looking, purple liquid.  To any human the liquid would be a clear indication to stay away, but to a demon it was the opposite.  The smell was enticing even in this human body.  It took a good portion of your willpower not to drink it right then and there.

“Nasty looking stuff isn’t it?” Vlad chuckles.

“Not argument here,” Arthur says.

You nod in agreement and take the ladle that was leaning against the cauldron, “Do you have the vial?”

Arthur goes to another one of his shelves and pulls out a small vial.  It was roughly as long as your index finger and about as wide as quarter.  It wouldn’t hold that much of the potion as you would have liked, but even a little bit of this stuff would be greatly beneficial to you.  He offers it to you and you take it.  You poor a small bit of the cauldrons contents into the vial, but don’t waste time capping it.  You were going o use it right away, so what was the point?

“Well, are we all ready to bind it?” Vlad asks the two of you.

“Yes, let’s get this over with.  The sooner it’s bound the quicker I’ll be to getting her back,” Arthur’s voices boarders a growl.

You both nod and head back to the room your body was being held.  You hoped Lukas hadn’t done anything in your mind.  He had the ability to tamper with your mind, but no more than that.  He couldn’t do any permanent damage being caged up.  That was your only relief in the matter.

When you got back to the room, you had a moment to take in the state of your body.  The chains from before cocooned it entirely except your head.  Beneath your body was a pentagram with lettering in Latin.  Five separate candles stood lit around the circle equally spaced apart.  The flames on them filled the room with a blue hue.

You walk up to your body and kneel before it as Vlad hoisted your body into a sitting position.  You grab your chin and open your mouth to pour the contents of the vial down your throat.  You could feel the potion quickly take effect as the powers in your body awakened.

When your body didn’t move still, Arthur and Vlad began to worry.

“Shouldn’t that wake her right up?” Vlad asks.

“It should have,” you answer him.  “Let me heck her mind again.”

“No, Lukas,” Arthur intervenes.  “We already risked that once.  I don’t want you to risk your life again.”

“It can’t hurt me in there.  Not physically,” You answer.  However, it was then you caught your mistake.

You had just told them you couldn’t hurt them ‘physically’.

“Physically…then doesn’t that mean it can…” Vlad’s eyes widen in alarm as realization downs on his face.  Arthur was a splitting image of him as they went to grab you.

They were a split second too late.  You had shot your hand out to your body and quickly migrated back into your own body.  You could feel the power of the potion coursing through you as you laughed insanely.  Lukas could only watch in horror as your form grew in your mind.  Looking down at him with craze filled eyes, you broke the cage and literally threw him back into his own mind.

Once he was gone, you woke yourself up from your slumber.  Your eyes shot open to reveal red eyes.  At this moment in time you were as powerful as Lucifer himself.  The potion would wear off soon though, so you had to make every second count.

“Lukas!  Are you alright?!” Vlad and Arthur call out to him.

Lukas could only manage a nod as he watched you with half lidded eyes.

“Stop…it…” was all he got out before he passed out from exhaustion.

Arthur and Vlad quickly set him down and turn their attention to your now floating body.  Your feet were a few inches from the floor, and your body was surrounded by a demonic purple aura.  You had the most demonic looking smile on your face as you began to dissolve to chains surrounding you.  Lukas would probably be dead by the time you were finished with this.

Arthur and Vlad hastily began to cast spells at you in hopes to stop you, but all the spells did was bounce off you.  You clench you fists and push your arms outwards.  It doesn’t even take that much effort to break all the chains.  The broken chains fell to the ground where they dissolve into dust.  By now Lukas didn’t even look like he was breathing, Arthur was leaning against the wall near the door, and Vlad was out cold on the floor.  The only remaining piece of the chains were the remaining shackles around your neck and both wrists.

You beat your wings once to put out all the candles, swallowing the room in darkness.  You could see perfectly, but you knew Arthur couldn’t.  You take slow steps towards him.  Kneeling down in front of him you took his face in your right hand.  You lit your other hand with blues flames, lighting up both your face and his.

His face was filled with fear, anger, and hate.  His eyes couldn’t even focus on you.  He was that tired and out of energy.  You held the flames very close to his face and leaned in uncomfortably close.  He tries to lean away, but with the wall behind him he couldn’t move very far.

“You underestimate me, Arthur~.  Ever heard of demonic possession?” you ask him.

His eyes widen as he realizes his own mistake.  He should never have let Lukas enter your mind in the first place.  None of this would have happened if he would have just listened to his common sense.

“May we never meet again, Arthur.  May your soul find peace in the next life,” you grin evilly at him.

You let go of his head and move back a few steps.  With a snap of your finger, the shackles broke.  Arthur lay limp against the wall out cold.  You presumed the other two to be dead or near death.  You chuckle to yourself as you gaze at Arthur’s limp figure.  However, his form seemed to trigger something in your memory, and you were soon greeted with another unfamiliar scene.

A man lay on the ground unconscious as you stood in front of him.  You were being held back from getting to the said man by arms of a stranger.  The girl’s voice cried out to the man, pleading him to get up.

“Arthur, get up!  Please get up!  Don’t let him take me away!  Please!!”

Those words echoed through the room and your mind as the person behind you began pulling you away from ‘Arthur’.  You felt the girl thrash and fight the person, but all too quickly everything went black.

You snapped back to reality and focused your gaze on the man in front of you.  What did this human have to do with your past?  Was this even the same ‘Arthur’?  No it couldn’t be.  They were both from different times.  You needed to clear your head.

You bolt out of the room and make your way out of the house.  Out of the confinement you had been in for the past few days.  Throwing open the front door, you were met with rain.  The wetness against your skin was a refreshing welcome, and it helped calm your nerves.  Lifting your head towards the sky, you let out a sigh of relief.  You spread your wings out to welcome the rain and freedom.

You stay like that for a few minutes before collecting yourself.  You ruffle your wings to get rid of the excess water and make you way over to the tree in Arthur’s front yard.  You needed to get the letter first of all.  You swooped up to the branches above and pulled out the purple card that Ordon had places there.

‘Ordon…I have to get rid of him later,’ you made a mental note.

You flip open the card and almost fall out of the tree at the words written on the parchment.

Your target is Arthur Kirkland

“Oh, hell no!” you shout out in disbelief.  There was no way on earth you were going back to that maniac of a man.

You burn the letter and punch the tree in anger.  How dare Lucifer do this to you.

‘Wait a minute,’ you think.  ‘This means he’s a country.  A living country.  THAT’S why he was so powerful and secretive.’

How could you be so blind?  Your target was right in front of you the entire time!  You could have been done with this stupid job or at least started it.  At least you knew they weren’t dead.  But how were you going to get his soul when he wasn’t going to give it to you in exchange for finding his lost love?

“I’ll figure something out,” you mutter to yourself.  “Until then, there’s a demon a need to have a nice little chat with.”

You flew off into the rain in search of the demon.  Once you were done with him, you’d start your work.  You earned that much of a break from everything you went through today.

To be continued~
